Moving violations are a common and unfortunate consequence of improper driving. While speeding tickets seem like a small matter, the fees can add up quickly. If you are unprepared for these fees, the results can be disastrous. If you find yourself with a speeding ticket, calculating the amount can help you prepare for paying the fine.

    Calculating a Speeding Ticket

  1. Step 1

Determine the violations listed on the ticket. Review the ticket thoroughly and note all the violations listed on it. This can include extra fees for violations in school zones, speed zones or in certain residential areas.

  2. Step 2

Determine the location of the speeding ticket. You will need to know the state, county, city and town. In many cases, fees for speeding tickets differ between governmental lines.

  3. Step 3

Contact the court clerk's office listed on your ticket. Call the court clerk and explain you have a speeding ticket and that you wish to have the fees calculated so you can be prepared with payment. The clerk then can calculate the fees or direct you to a department that can.

  4. Step 4

Locate the court listed on your ticket on the Internet. Some courts have ventured into the world of technology and have websites. The sites typically have contact and basic information. Some sites have gone so far as to include calculators for things such as taxes and violations fees. If your court system has such a website, consider using the calculator to determine the cost of your ticket.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always behave in a polite manner when speaking with members of law enforcement or the legal system. They are often overworked and understaffed, so a little kindness will make your involvement with them more enjoyable.
