Things You'll Need:
- Wall ski rack
- Screws that fit the ski rack
- Electronic stud finder
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
- Wall space to hang the ski rack
- Level
- Drill
- Drill bits the size of the screws for the ski rack
- Screwdriver
- Threaded wall anchors, if no stud is available
-
Step 1
Measure 4 feet up from the ground on the wall using the measuring tape.
-
Step 2
Mark the measurement with a small pencil mark.
-
Step 3
Press the stud finder against the wall with the power on.
-
Step 4
Move the stud finder along the wall at the approximate level where you made the mark until you the stud-finder begins beeping rapidly. The rapid beeping indicates that a stud is in that location, and this is where you should drill the screws to hold the ski rack. If you can't find a stud in the area where you want to use the ski rack, you'll need to use a wall anchor.
-
Step 5
Mark the location of the stud with a pencil mark.
-
Step 6
Press the ski rack against the wall on approximately the same level as where you made the pencil mark at 4 feet up from the ground, centering one of the screw holes over the stud.
-
Step 7
Place the level on top of the ski rack.
-
Step 8
Adjust one side of the ski rack until the bubble on the level is centered between the two lines on the level, indicating that the ski rack is level.
-
Step 9
Draw circles with the pencil in each of the screw holes with your free hand, and remove the ski rack from the wall.
-
Step 10
Drill holes in the places where you drew the circles.
-
Step 11
Insert the threaded wall anchors into the wall if you are mounting the ski rack in a place where no stud is available. Screw the threaded wall anchor into the wall with the screwdriver.
-
Step 12
Press the ski rack against the wall, matching the screw holes in the ski rack up to the holes in the wall.
-
Step 13
Insert the screws into the holes and screw them into the wall using a screwdriver.
-
Step 14
Hold two skis back-to-back and place them on the ski rack with the strap area above the ski rack hooks.
