How to Delete System32 Files in Windows XP Pro
The Microsoft Windows XP Pro operating system has a folder titled "System32" that houses all of the critical files necessary for the computer to run. By default the operating system will hide these files from view, but if there is some reason that you need to remove one you can change the folder settings so that the files are visible.

Click on the Windows icon located at the far left side of the tool bar at the bottom of your computer's desktop. Choose the "Shut Down" option and then click on "Restart."

Wait for the manufacturer's logo to appear on your monitor while the computer is loading up. Press the F8 key repeatedly until a new black and white menu screen appears.

Press the "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Delete" buttons on your keyboard at the same time to bring up the task manager. Scroll down through the list of programs that are currently running and check to see if the System32 file you want to delete is listed there. Click on the program and then click "End Process."

Switch back over to the "My Computer" window and navigate to the System32 folder. Right-click on the file you want to remove and then choose "Delete" from the pop up menu. Double-click on the recycle bin on the desktop. Click on the "File" button and then choose "Empty Recycle Bin" to completely delete the file.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't end the process for the file you want to delete first you will receive an error message letting you know that the file is currently in use.
Files in the System32 folder are generally critical to the operation of the operating system, so only delete a file if you are absolutely certain you know what it is and that it actually needs to be removed.
