Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 20-inch lengths of two different grosgrain ribbons (1-inch width)
  • 1/4-inch wide elastic
  • Tape measure
  • Sewing machine
  • Sewing notions (scissors, thread to match the ribbons)
  1. Step 1

Line up the edges of the two grosgrain ribbons with wrong sides facing in and right sides facing out. Pin the ribbons together to secure.

  2. Step 2

Machine stitch the two grosgrain ribbons together by sewing along each long edge 1/8-inch from each edge. Leave the short edges open.

  3. Step 3

Cut a 5-inch length of elastic. This length of elastic is extra long and will likely need to be shortened to create a headband that fits your head.

  4. Step 4

Slip one end of the elastic into one open end of the grosgrain ribbons. Pin to secure.

  5. Step 5

Machine stitch across the short end of the grosgrain ribbons to secure the elastic in between the grosgrain ribbons.

  6. Step 6

Place the headband around your head and make sure the fit will be right for your head. Adjust as necessary by cutting the elastic shorter.

  7. Step 7

Repeat Steps 4 and 5 with the other end of the elastic into the other short end of the grosgrain ribbons.

  8. Step 8

Wear the headband with the grosgrain ribbon facing out and the elastic under your hair at the back of your neck.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have nerves behind your ears that are easily irritated by some headbands, a ribbon headband is a great alternative because they do not put pressure on these sensitive nerves.
