How to Make a Festive Lampshade
Every once in a while we feel the need for a change in our homes. Instead of buying expensive items or making drastic changes, use what you have by changing how it looks. New lamps are an easy way to instantly change the look of a room. But instead of buying new lamps, replace just the lampshade or learn how to refurbish your old lampshade. In a few easy steps and for just pennies, you can turn a plain lampshade into something festive that will make your room look like a million bucks. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Plain, white, fabric lampshade
- Ribbon or rickrack
- Embellished trim
- Fabric glue

Choose different widths of ribbon. Select all one color, or several shades in the same color family. Choose rickrack and embellished trim for the bottom of the lampshade. Position the pieces of ribbon around the lampshade to determine the look you want. Once you determine what pattern you like, lay your ribbon aside in the order you will place it on the lampshade.

Measure around the lampshade with a tape measure. Measure the areas where you want the ribbon, starting from the bottom and working up; add 1 inch to each measurement.

Cut each ribbon to fit on the lampshade. Glue each piece of ribbon around the lampshade, starting near the bottom and working up; overlap the extra 1 inch and glue in place. Once all the ribbons are glued in place, let the glue dry.

If desired, add embellished trim around the bottom of the lampshade. Turn the lampshade upside down and measure around the bottom on the inside; add 1 inch to your measurement. Cut the trim to fit this measurement. Glue the trim to the inside of the bottom edge; let dry. Attach the lampshade to your lamp.
