Instructions

    • 1

Look at photos of Victorian homes and dollhouses. You will find these in dollhouse magazines, heritage photos and doll miniatures catalogs. Keep a folder with photos and features that interest you.

    • 2

Notice the differences in a Victorian house compared to other types of buildings. Choose features that you want for your Victorian dollhouse project. Take notes as you plan. Write down how many stories you want, if there will be a porch and how many rooms it should have.

    • 3

Plan on the size of the Victorian dollhouse project. What scale will it be? Scale is a set amount of inches in comparison with a foot that would be measured in a life-sized house.

    • 4

Draw a diagram of what the house will look like on a piece of graph paper. Use a ruler to keep the lines straight and even. Determine how many graph squares equal a foot of dollhouse height or width. This will help when you are ready to measure and cut wood for your project. You may need to make many sketches before you have the one you want. Sketch separate floor plans for each story of the house.

    • 5

Use graph paper drawings and your notes to compile a list of supplies you will need for the project. This will include wood, siding, shingles, windows, doors, railings, shutters and trim for the dollhouse.

Tips & Warnings

  • Study dollhouse supply catalogs or in-store items when designing a project. You will need to know what sizes there are for materials, such as shingles and window casings. Take a small measuring tape when you go to craft and doll supply stores. You will be able to measure items to add into the project.

  • Make sure the measurements are accurate, or your dollhouse project will not come out properly when you try to build it.
