How to Connect an Actiontec DSL Modem

Connecting an Actiontec DSL modem is a simple process that will take only a few minutes. All the equipment you need will come packaged with the modem when you buy it. Prior to beginning the setup process, make sure that your DSL service has been activated for the phone line you are connecting the modem to. Also, plan to have the configuration settings provided by your internet service provider handy so that you can begin using your DSL Internet service right away.

Things You'll Need

• Power cord
• Ethernet cable
• Phone cord
• Phone filters (optional)

Instructions

1. Plug the power cord into the back of the modem and the wall outlet. The power LED light will turn solid green when connected to the power source.

2. Plug the yellow Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the modem and the Ethernet port on your computer. The Ethernet LED light will turn solid green when connected properly.

3. Plug the gray or green phone cord into the "Line" port on the modem and the phone jack in the wall. The DSL light will turn solid green when properly connected to the phone line.

4. Plug a phone filter into each phone jack in the rest of the house that has a telephone, fax machine or other device that uses the phone line attached to it. Plug the device's phone cord into the filter instead of directly into the wall jack.

5. Configure the modem according to your ISP's instructions for your particular modem model.

Tips & Warnings

• The ports on the modem are labeled, but if you have trouble deciding which cord goes where, remember that each cable has a differently shaped connector so it will fit into only one type of port.
