Since open flames can be dangerous, especially in drafty areas or places that have pets, many places don't allow you to burn candles. If you enjoy the fragrance of scented candles, there is another option: electric potpourri burners. These allow you to use low heat generated from a single light bulb to melt candles or warm potpourri. The result is a safe means of filling your space with warm fragrance.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Electric potpourri burner
  • 25-, 30-, or 40-watt incandescent light bulb (depending upon potpourri burner model)
  • Electrical outlet
  • Small scented tea light or tart candle or about 1/3 to 1/2 cup dried potpourri
  1. Step 1

Screw the light bulb into the electric potpourri burner.

  2. Step 2

Place the tea light, tart candle or potpourri into the top well of the burner.

  3. Step 3

Plug the potpourri burner into an outlet. As the light warms, it will melt the candle or release the fragrance from the dried potpourri. Your room will begin to take on the scented odor in about 15 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Unplug the potpourri burner after use. You can leave the melted candle wax or the dried potpourri in the well for use next time, or pour it out to clean the burner.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not use a compact fluorescent light bulb in the electric potpourri burner. It will not get hot enough.
