Cats can be very finicky when it comes to choosing a favorite kind of food. Cat owners may have a difficult time deciphering what kind of food their pet prefers. By paying close attention to certain cues, however, pet owners can determine what kind of food their cat likes.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Samples of various kinds of dry cat food

    Taste-Testing Cat Food

  1. Step 1

Choose one brand of dry cat food. Purchase a small bag of each different variety they offer.

  2. Step 2

Fill your cat's bowl with a different variety of the brand's cat food each day.

  3. Step 3

Note how long the food remains in the bowl. Pay attention to your cat's demeanor, and make note of this as well.

  4. Step 4

Repeat the same steps with different brands' varieties.

  5. Step 5

Compare your notes. See if a pattern has emerged showing your cat's preference for one brand of food over another.

  6. Step 6

If your cat seems to prefer one brand over the others, refer to your notes to see which variety it responded the most enthusiastically to.

Tips & Warnings
  • Measure out the same amount of dry cat food each day to get an accurate reading.
  • Do not feed your cat any other types of food on days when you are performing these tests; this could negatively affect the results.
