Spot a Fake Gucci Pelham

Gucci handbags are stylish and sophisticated. The Pelham model is beautiful and highly coveted by bag enthusiasts all over the world. An authentic Gucci Pelham bag can be fairly expensive, due to its extensive craftsmanship and high-end materials. However, there is an illegal large market for knock-off or replica Pelham bags that hurts Gucci and companies with whom it works on the bags. Here is how you can spot a fake Gucci Pelham.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Note the shape of the tag on the inside of the bag. A real Gucci bag tag has slightly curved sides. If the tag is perfectly square, it's a fake.

  2. Step 2

Note where the '"G" monogram begins at the top of the bag. On a real Gucci bag, you'll note that the monogram begins with a small line that connects to the monogram. If the top of the bag runs through the monogram, it is a fake.

  3. Step 3

Notice the color of the stitching on the bag. A real Gucci Pelham will have brown stitching. White stitching means that it is a replica.

  4. Step 4

Notice the straps on the Gucci Pelham. A real Pelham has straps that are the same thickness as the decorative leather on the bag. If the straps are thinner, you are dealing with a fake Pelham.

  5. Step 5

Be smart about the craftsmanship of the bag. If you notice something amiss, such as loose threads or disconnected hardware, then you'll know it is not a real Gucci Pelham.

Tips & Warnings
  • *Realize that you get what you pay for. If you come across a Gucci bag with a price tag that really is too good to be true, then it probably is fake. * The only way to purchase an authentic Gucci handbag is through an authorized Gucci dealer or Gucci store.
