How to Clean a Fitted Hat

Adjustable and fitted are two types of baseball and other sports hats. If you wear a fitted hat while playing sports, or you just wear the hat often, you will need to clean the hat from time to time. It's important to know the correct way to clean a fitted hat or you could cause the shape of the hat to change or you could even shrink the hat. Follow these steps to safely clean a fitted hat.

Things You'll Need:

• Sink/bucket
• Toothbrush
• Laundry detergent

1. Start off by filling a bucket or your sink with lukewarm water.

2. Add about one-quarter cup of laundry detergent to the water. You can use more detergent if your fitted hat is very dirty. Be sure to use a bleach safe detergent so you don't stain the fitted cap.

3. Soak the fitted hat for 30 to 45 minutes.

4. Scrub the fitted hat with the toothbrush. Concentrate on areas where dirt and sweat will accumulate, such as the headband inside the fitted hat.

5. Rinse the fitted hat thoroughly. Inspect the hat and repeat the entire process if you feel the fitted hat is still too dirty.

6. To dry your fitted hat, place it on a towel or hang the hat using a clothespin. Hang the fitted hat outdoors as an additional way to eliminate odors from the hat.

• Never wash your fitted hat in a washing machine or dishwasher because it could ruin the fitted hat. You also should avoid using a dryer.
