How to Make Coffee Without a Percolator
When you need a cup of coffee but are miles away from a coffee shop, you can still make your own coffee even if you do not have a percolator, coffee maker or French press. This coffee recipe is often called "Cowboy coffee" or "campfire coffee" because it can be made over an open fire. Keep in mind that this recipe produces a strong brew you might want to cut with some additional boiled water. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Large pot or kettle
- 3 tbsp. ground coffee per cup prepared
- 1 cup of water per cup of coffee
- Fire or stove
- Coffee cup
- Cream and sweetener (optional)

Fill the pot or kettle with 1 cup of water per cup of coffee you want to make.

Bring the pot or kettle to a boil on top of the stove or fire.

Add the ground coffee to the boiling water in the pot or kettle.

Put the kettle or pot back on the heat and return it to a full, rolling boil.

Remove the pot from the heat as soon as the water is at a rolling boil.

Let the coffee rest for at least 5 minutes. This will allow the flavor to develop and let the coffee grounds sink to the bottom.

Gently pour the coffee into cups so that the coffee grounds remain in the bottom of the pot or kettle. Drink with cream and sweetener, if desired.

Tips & Warnings
If the coffee is too strong, boil another pot of plain water to mix with your coffee, but do not reduce the amount of grounds per cup. The flavor and body of the coffee will be affected.
