How to Make Flannel Pajama Pants
You can spend more than $20 for a pair of flannel pajama pants at your favorite store, or you can craft a pair of simple flannel pajama pants yourself for around $10. You might even be able to get out cheaper if you go with the flannel when it's on sale. You don't even need a pattern. You can make a pair of flannel pajama pants from scratch as long as you have a similar pair to model them after.
Things You'll Need
- Pair of pajama pants in the size you want to make
- Large paper
- Pencil

1
Make a pattern. All you need is a pair of old pajama pants similar to the ones you want to make. Fold the pajama pants in half so that they are completely flat, with the crotch area pulled all the way out. Trace around the pants, leaving 1/2 inch all the way around, 2 inches at the waist and 1 inch at the bottom of each leg.

2
Cut out your flannel. Fold the fabric in half and place the pattern with the flat side against the folded line. Pin the fabric into place and cut out one piece. Repeat this process and you will have matching pieces for the front and back of your pants.

Pin the two sides of the pattern together. Lay the fabric back to back so that the pants are inside out when pinned together. You want to keep your stitching on the inside. You will pin down the sides of each leg and down the inseam. Sew down both sides of the pants, and sew the inseam. You may want to add an extra row or two of stitching in the crotch area for a more secure hold.

Add the elastic waistband. Cut the elastic the length of the waist of the wearer, minus 1 to 2 inches for a kid's pants or minus 3 to 4 inches for an adult's pants. This will allow the elastic to have to stretch and hold. Fold the fabric into the waistband, pin into place and sew along the fabric below the elastic. Do not sew into the elastic or it won't be able to stretch.

5
Hem the cuffs. Fold the bottom of each leg up a 1/2 inch, then fold again another 1/2 inch. Sew the cuff into place.
