How to Change an RV Awning

When you are camping in your RV, you may enjoy sitting outside under your RV awning. It can be great protection from the weather and from the sun. However, when your RV awning gets torn, needs to be washed or just plain wears out, you may need to change it temporarily or permanently. This is a fairly simple process, but make sure you have a clear day or it can become unpleasant fast.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the awning up as usual. It will be mounted on top of its own frame. You will likely simply pull the frame out of the RV and the awning will extend with it.

    • 2

Remove the old awning cloth from the framework. Awnings will be held on either with heavy-duty snaps or Velcro tape. Carefully unsnap the snaps or pull apart the velcro tape.

    • 3

Attach the new awning to the old framework. Drape it over the frame, then either snap or velcro the cloth fasteners around the frame to keep it firmly in place.

    • 4

Make sure the awning is securely fastened. Extend and retract the awning several times to make sure that it is securely fixed in place and does not snag on the RV. Now you are ready to enjoy your new awning.

Tips & Warnings

  • Take a good look at how your old awning fit in place before you attach the new one. This will give you a good idea of how to lay out the new awning and fasten it.
