How to Clean a Persian Rug
In many Far Eastern countries, a Persian rug is one of the most treasured possessions. Proper care of your Persian rug is imperative to maintaining its natural beauty and prolonging its lifespan. Things You'll Need
- Vacuum cleaner
- Bucket
- Mild dish soap
- Sponge
- Soft bristle brush
- Squeegee

Vacuum the rug thoroughly on both sides to remove all dirt and loose debris.

Make a solution of soapy water by adding 3 tbsp. of a mild dish soap to a bucket of warm water.

Using a sponge, gently scrub the rug in the direction of the nap. Start on one side of the rug and work your way across it.

Use a soft bristle brush dipped in the soapy water to clean any fringes. Brush away from the rug.

Rinse the rug thoroughly with clear running water. Setting it in the shower or taking it outside to use the hose will work fine.

Squeeze out any residual water. Laying it flat and using a squeegee to force out any remaining water is a huge time saver.

Lay the rug flat to air dry. When one side feels dry, flip it over to allow the other side to dry as well. Taking the rug outside to dry will help to speed up the process.

Vacuum the rug to fluff it up again once it is completely dry.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure the rug is completely dry before putting it away or storing it. A damp rug in a dark place can accumulate mold.
Avoid the use of harsh cleaners and abrasives on the rug.
