Donate Textbooks for Charity

When you are finished using those textbooks for the semester, give back to your community by donating them to a local charity. Since used books tend to have a low resale value, donating them is the best option. Instead of letting old books gather dust and take up space on your bookshelf, you can give the gift of education to someone in a tight financial situation.

Things You'll Need:

  • Used textbooks
  • Computer with Internet connection
  1. Step 1

Drop the books off at your local Goodwill or Salvation Army. If there isn't a branch located near you, look for donation drop-off boxes located at various points throughout your city.

  2. Step 2

Check with your local elementary and high schools, along with community colleges and universities to see if they could be useful there. By donating used books to schools, you may be making it more affordable for children in need to get a good education.

  3. Step 3

Give the textbooks to local battered women's and homeless shelters. The books may help motivate people who are down on their luck to improve themselves and continue their education.

  4. Step 4

Donate the books online. The Better World Foundation for Children, a non-profit organization, takes books on various topics to help raise funds for children around the world (see link in Resources).

  5. Step 5

Give the used textbooks to your local public library. The library may be able to sell the books to raise money for reading programs and other causes.
