How to Use Cute FTP

FTP stands for file transfer protocol, and FTP clients such as Cute FTP allow users to transfer files from their local machine to a server. Many people these clients to transfer multiple files at a time. Although applications like Cute FTP are fairly easy to use, many non-technical people tend to stray away from FTP clients. Using Cute FTP is a fairly easy process, however.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Download and install Cute FTP. You can find a Cute .ftp download at their website (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

    Open Cute FTP and add a new site where you would like to either upload or download files. Start by clicking the new site button on the lower left-hand corner of the application.

  3. Step 3

    Enter a label for the site. You can use a nickname or any other meaningful name to label your site.

  4. Step 4

    Enter the host name for your site. This will be the actual address of the site or server you wish to access. Often, these will look like the following: ftp.fileserver.us.

  5. Step 5

    Enter the user name and password for the site. You must have administrator access to perform most file transfers.

  6. Step 6

    Click the "Connect" button located in the lower right-hand corner of the application. Once you have been connected you can start your file transfers.

  7. Step 7

    Upload or download the file or files you wish to transfer by clicking the upload or download buttons located along the top of the application. You will be able to choose which folders you would like to transfer files to or from.
