Make Your Own CD Wallet

CD wallets are a great way to store your CDs, CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs. They take up much less space than jewel cases and are perfect if you want to make your CD collection portable. While CD wallets are not too expensive, they tend to have a very standardized look. Using old 5 1/4-inch floppy disks to make your own case ensures you will have a unique retro CD wallet that is both fashionable and practical.

Things You'll Need

  • 5-1/4-inch floppy disks
  • Goo Gone (to remove stickers)
  • Scissors
  • Paper towels
  • 2 binder rings
  • Hole punch
  • Strip of leather, ribbon, small chain or shoelace

Instructions

    • 1

Use Goo Gone or another glue solvent to remove the stickers from the floppy disks. Get all the residue off the disk with a paper towel.

    • 2

Use the scissors to cut off the bottom of the floppy disk. Make sure you are cutting above the notches on the disk. Take the floppy disk's disk out of the casing and throw it away. Repeat with all the floppy disks.

    • 3

Punch two holes at the bottom of the disk--the holes should be 1/2 inch from each side and 1/2 inch from the top of the disk (the uncut end). Punch another hole about 1/2 inch from the top, centered.

    • 4

Open the binder rings and slide the rings through the bottom holes on the floppy disks.

    • 5

Close the binder rings and put your CDs into the empty floppy disk shells.

    • 6

Push the leather, chain, ribbon or shoelace through the holes in the top of the disks and tie it together. This will keep your disks from falling out of the wallet.
