- Knowledge and experience of Tai Ch'i

Step 1
Perform Tai Ch'i Chuan Push Hands. Two people stand at a stride's distance facing each other. Each person stands with the same (right or left) foot forward. Each person should place feet so that he maintains a firmly balanced stance.

Step 2
Raise the forward hand (correlated to the forward leg) to chest level, palm inward. Touch the back of the each person's forward hand to lightly touch at the base. Place each rear hand on the other's forward elbow. This is Push Hands starting position.

Step 3
Begin Push Hands by each person rotating arms, legs and waist three times. At the end of the final rotation, each person will try to stay gently contacting each other. Each must maintain perfect balance.

Step 4
Follow rules established before the Push Hands exercise to try to cause the other person to lose balance. According to whatever rules are established, each person may touch the other. Rules might include that excessive force is not allowed or that feet must stay on the ground.
