Things You'll Need:
- Tape measure
- Paper
- Pencil

Step 1
Measure the length and width of your table. Place the tape measure's tip from one end to the other of the top and the bottom part and the left to the right side. For a round table the length and width would be the same; however, for oval tables there would be a difference in the length and width.
-
Step 2
Add the drop length. This part hangs on the side of the table. Measure the drop from the edge of the table down to the desired length. Multiply this by 2, and then add to the total tablecloth diameter.
-
Step 3
Add 16 inches to the total measurement of your diameter if you prefer an informal drop of 8 inches.
-
Step 4
Add 30 inches to the total measurement of your diameter if you prefer a formal drop of 15 inches. The longer the drop, the more formal is the setting.
-
Step 5
Avoid adding drops that are too short. For example, drops shorter than 5 inches are inappropriate for a round tablecloth. Add a little bit of length, preferably one that can cover most of the framing of the table. When you move the tablecloth on one side, it should not expose the top of the table on the other side. This happens when the tablecloth is too short.
-
Step 6
Select a ready-made tablecloth with measurement closest to your round table's diameter. To calculate the drop for a round table with a diameter of 48, a standard 72-inch round tablecloth would work, whereby, 72 inches minus 48 inches is 24. Then, divide 24 by 2. This means 12 inches is your drop all around.
