How to Make Your Own Roll Shades
-
1
Measure the window where you are installing the shades. Cut your fabric the same width as the window, and add 6 inches to the height.
-
2
Iron the fabric flat. Install curtain rod holders on either side of the window frame, just above it, and measure the distance between them. Cut a 1 3/4-inch dowel rod so it will be long enough to hang at the top of the window. The dowel rod should fit comfortably into the curtain rod holders.

-
3
Roll the top of the curtain around the dowel rod until it covers the rod. Secure it with hot glue. Cut a second 1 3/4-inch dowel rod the same length as the width of the curtain.
-
4
Roll the bottom of the curtain around this second dowel rod and secure with hot glue. Let the glue dry.
-
5
Hang the curtain in the curtain rod holders. Tie a decorative ribbon on each end, about 1 inch from the curtain rod holders. To close the curtain, roll the bottom dowel up and tie it securely with the ribbons.

Tips & Warnings
You can sew the fabric around the dowel rods instead of using hot glue.
