How to Clean Drip Pans on a Stove

Drip pans are the small, metal pans beneath the burners on a stove that catch food and debris that may spill while cooking. If left to build up for long periods of time, drip pans can become difficult to clean. However, there are several easy methods to thoroughly clean drip pans on a stove that will make them look as good as new.

Things You'll Need

• Automatic dishwashing detergent
• Window cleaner
• Cloth

Instructions

1. Remove the drip pans from the stove, following the manufacturer's instructions. Most stoves are disassembled in different ways, and failure to do so properly may result in broken pieces or injury.

2. Place the drip pans inside the oven and run the oven's self cleaning cycle. The extreme heat will burn off any encrusted debris and will make cleaning the drip pan much easier.

3. Mix two parts hot water with one part automatic dishwashing detergent. Soak the drip pans in the solution for two to three hours, and then rinse thoroughly using cool water.

4. Place the drip pans into the dishwasher. Ensure they are in a location to receive a thorough cleaning, such as facing down in the top rack. Add dishwashing detergent to the dishwasher and run on the heaviest or "pots and pans" setting.

5. Allow the drips pans to dry completely and then spray each drip pan with window cleaner. This will give the drip pans a mirror-like shine. Wipe the drip pans clean with a cloth and replace on the stove.

Tips & Warnings

• Coat the drip pans with spray cooking oil before using the stove. This will help prevent any spills or drips from sticking to the drip pan.

• Always ensure that all components of the stove are cold before cleaning any part. Failure to do so may result in injury. Never remove drip pans when they are hot just after cooking.
