Things You'll Need:
- Hot curler set Styling lotion Medium-hold hairspray Pins
-
Step 1
Shampoo and condition your hair. Use a blow dryer to dry your hair thoroughly.Remove any tangles with a comb.
-
Step 2
Allow your hot curlers to heat up completely. Most hot roller sets have a light that indicates the curlers have reached the right temperature.
-
Step 3
Apply a styling lotion to your hair, or spritz with medium-hold hairspray. Avoid using maximum-hold hairspray, because it will be difficult to tousle your hair when the curlers are removed. Skip hairspray altogether if you want uncontrolled waves.
-
Step 4
Consider the type of curlers that you want to use on the sections of your hair. Use small curlers for spirals and tight curls. Use large curlers for loose and wavy curls.
-
Step 5
Divide and pin the hair on top of your head from your bangs to the back of your crown. Separate and pin the sections of hair on each side of your head near your ears. Start with the hair that is closest to your face, and then continue down to the nape of your neck.
-
Step 6
Use a comb or pick to separate a small section of hair on the top part of your head. Lift the hair away from your head with one hand while grasping the hot roller in your other hand. Avoid touching the inside part of the roller, because it is very hot.
-
Step 7
Place the hot roller underneath a section of hair, and wrap the ends of the hair around the barrel of the roller. Roll your hair toward the base of your scalp. Secure the hot roller with a pin or clip. Roll the rest of the top section, and then do the other two sections.
-
Step 8
Spray your rolled hair with medium-hold hairspray. Allow your hair to set in curlers for 10 to 20 minutes. The curlers are ready to remove when they are cool.
-
Step 9
Unroll the hot curlers in the same direction that you rolled them to prevent frizzy and tangled hair.
