How to Score High in the Game Luxor

Luxor is an Egyptian-themed computer game that combines puzzle-solving and hand-eye-coordination. The object of the game is to remove strings of at least three colored balls from a moving line before the line reaches the end of a track at the entrance to your pyramid. You shoot colored balls from a winged scarab to create these strings, and you can pile up high scores in the game if you know how to acquire bonuses.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Catch falling gems to earn bonus points. After successfully removing a chain of three colored balls, Luxor randomly spits out gems. The amount of points earned is dependent on the type of gem. Catch these gems with your scarab shooter before they hit the bottom of the screen.

  2. Step 2

Grab the Ankh coins for additional bonus points. Like gems, coins will drop from the location of a just-removed chain. The coins offer bonus points, and if you collect 30 in one level, you'll receive an extra life, which can help add to your total game score.

  3. Step 3

Put together strings of combos. Luxor players receive bonuses for combos--consecutive shots that remove three or more colored balls. These bonus points multiply quickly when you've made five or six consecutive shots that remove balls from the line. When you are in no danger of having a string of colored balls enter your pyramid, you should go for combos on consecutive shots to boost your score.

  4. Step 4

Create chains to get bonus points. When you remove three or more colored balls from the line, both ends snap back to form one continuous line. In doing so, if the removal creates another series of three or more colored balls, they are removed, and you get a bonus for creating a chain.

  5. Step 5

Clear the level as far away from your pyramid as possible. You receive a bonus when you remove the final set of colored balls on each level, and the bonus point total will be higher if the final set was removed in the middle of the screen rather than, say, an inch or two from the entrance to your pyramid.

Tips & Warnings
  • * Stay alert for gems and coins to drop. Catching both can be tricky when the game spits out both at once, and they fall in different directions.
