How to Use Curtains to Separate the Kids' Room
Sometimes families have more family members than bedrooms. In these cases, siblings have to share a bedroom. If your kids get too old to willingly share their space and desire a greater degree of privacy in their bedroom, you may want to separate kids' shared bedrooms with a curtain as a privacy divider. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Long, heavy-duty curtain rods (may need more than one, depending on dimensions of room)
- Curtains that are long enough to reach from ceiling to within an inch of the floor (at least two panels)

1
Determine which is the best way to divide the room in half. Keep in mind that both children need to have access to the bedroom door. Access to the closet is also important, unless you plan to purchase a wardrobe closet for one side of the room.
-
2
Measure the room in the direction that you want to divide it. The curtain does not need to span the entire length of the room, because each child should have easy access to the door, but it should go almost all the way.

3
Measure the height of the room and subtract 1 inch. You don't want the curtains hanging all the way to the floor because they might look messy and also get dirty more quickly.
-
4
Purchase heavy-duty curtain rods at a home improvement store. Lightweight rods are less expensive, but they probably will not hold up to the curtain being moved back and forth several times a day.
-
5
Purchase curtain panels in the correct length. Choose fabric that both children can agree on. If they can't agree, just choose a solid neutral color. Purchase at least two panels so that the curtains can be opened from either end and also from the center. The number you purchase ultimately depends on the width of the room and the width of the curtain panels themselves.
-
6
Mount the curtain rods according to the package directions. However, instead of mounting to the wall, attach the mounting brackets to the ceiling.
-
7
Insert the curtain rod through the curtain panels, and hang it from the mounting brackets. The finished product will divide the room neatly in half, giving each child her privacy.
