How to Assemble a Football Visor

Wearing a visor attached to your football helmet prevents eye injuries and keeps bright light out of your eyes. However, many high schools prohibit the use of any shade of visor other than clear. Double-check that your visor is legal before attaching it to your helmet.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove every screw that holds the face mask and helmet together.

    • 2

Slide the visor into the main vision area of the football helmet. The tabs on the top left and right front of the visor need to be on the inside of the face mask.

    • 3

Attach the visor's two screw clips onto the lateral bars of the face mask. Align the clips with the corresponding marks on each side of the bottom of the visor.

    • 4

Screw both screws into the clips to attach the visor to the face mask.

    • 5

Attach the face mask, with visor in place, onto the helmet by fastening each screw back into place.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check with a sporting goods store to make sure your visor is compatible to you helmet's face mask. Most visors are made to fit with a majority of face masks but there are exceptions.

    n. An eyeshield attached to the helmet that is not: 1. Constructed of a molded rigid material; or 2. Is not clear without the presence of any tint. From the 2009 NFHS Rules Book A eyeshield with any tint at all is illegal equipment. It is important for the officials to be able to see the players eyes for signs of brain injury. It is a safety issue not a nit-picky rule.
