How to Improve Gas Mileage for Ford Ranger Trucks
Newer Ford Rangers get around 24 miles per gallon on the highway. While this number is relatively impressive--particularly for a truck and for any vehicle with such impressive performance--there is still room for improvement. Gas mileage can easily be boosted with a few changes that you can make yourself. Owners of older models, which don't get good gas mileage, will particularly enjoy the boost in fuel economy. Other benefits of better gas mileage include less impact on the environment and, in some cases, better performance and more power from your vehicle.

1
Make sure that the air flow sensor is clean. Particularly in Ford Rangers, oil from the filter tends to end up on the sensor. When the sensor is dirty, the computer sends too much fuel to the engine, wasting gas.
-
2
Clean or replace the air filter to ensure that enough clean air is getting to your engine.
-
-
3
Upgrade your muffler to increase the speed with which exhaust flows out of the engine. This will help keep the engine cool, which will allow it to operate with ease and use less gas.
-
4
Install a cold air intake system to keep your engine cool and increase its power, which will let your car operate with less gas.
-
5
Install smaller tires on your truck, which will decrease friction and increase fuel efficiency.
-
6
Remove unnecessary amounts of equipment from your Ford Ranger. Keep your truck bed empty unless you are transporting equipment somewhere. Extra weight will cause your Ford Ranger to work harder, using more fuel.
-
7
Drive in the highest gear possible. Lower gears use more gas and should be used only when absolutely necessary.
-
8
Drive the speed limit. Driving at speeds above 60 miles per hour wastes gas quickly.
