Are you ready for your singing audition?

Going to a singing audition can be an intimidating and scary thing. However, with a few tips, and a few tricks of the trade, you can insure that your next singing audition will be a successful one.

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Prepare. Before even entering the room for a singing audition you should be completely and full prepared. You should know your audition piece backwards and forwards. You should also be prepared to answer any questions that the casting/decision panel may ask you during the auditions such as, "Why should we pick you?" or "Why do you love to sing?". Being prepared will insure that nothing will surprise you during your singing audition.

  2. Step 2

It's all in the key. When preparing for your singing audition, choose a key signature that shows off your range without getting so daring that there is even the slightest chance you will crack. This applies on both the high and the low end. A crack is the fastest way to turn your singing audition from memorable to a disaster.

  3. Step 3

Have confidence. Walk into the singing audition with confidence, without being cocky. You should be proud of your abilities, but divas, regardless of what people may say, do not have any better chance of getting a part than someone who is just calm and confident. Always keep your head up and make eye contact with each of the panel members.

  4. Step 4

Dress the Part. This does not mean dress in costume, it means dress professionally. For a singing audition you want to find a good balance between trendy and professional. Stay on top of current fashion trends and use them to your advantage. Women wear enough makeup to look your best, but not so much that you look like you are auditioning for an adult entertainment show. Men trim your facial hair or go clean shaven.

  5. Step 5

Don't Apologize. If you are feeling sick, or not at your best, don't tell those auditioning you about it. This is one of the biggest mistakes that many people make when doing a singing audition. Just do your best and remain confident.

  6. Step 6

Be Grateful. Once you finish your singing audition, thank those auditioning you, smile, and gracefully leave. Do not try to add anything else to why you should get the job unless specifically asked to by the casting panel.
