Have you ever been intrigued by asian food? Now we all know that rice is a staple to Asian diet and probably never thought cooking rice can be art? I have a fancy for Thai food and the culinary itself, and will let you look into what I enjoy most. Making Thai Sticky rice.
Going Thai in cooking rice will spice up your cooking style big time. Using a concaved bamboo weaved basket and an odd looking pot (looks like a spittoon), it amazes dinner guests when revealed what that contraption is making them. Sweet, fragrant, Thai sticky rice. Yummy!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Steaming pot Bamboo Basket Thai Sweet Rice Water Stove Mixing bowl Medium size pot lid
  1. Step 1

    SOAKING:
Put rice in a bowl, put water and soak over night, no lesser if possible. Now the soaking has to be done well, for the rice to be able to cook well.

  2. Step 2

    BASKET PREP:
Wash the basket with warm water, letting the water seep in to the bamboo a little bit.

  3. Step 3

    BOILING:
Boil water in the pot with the basket sitting on top of it with lid on. Once reaches boiling, the cooking can start. Pour out the soaking water in to the sink and transfer the soaked rice in to the bamboo basket. Cover with the lid and time it for 6 minutes to steam. When timer alarms, you are going to take o ut the basket from the pot of boiling water. Lifting the basket from the boiling pot requires a lot of care so as not to create a disaster.

  4. Step 4

    LIFTING:
Lift basket by holding it both of the sides with thumb and forefinger. Remember to move away from the pot to get a good space for shaking the bamboo basket. Shake both sides allowing the rice to loosen up and form a ball. Now, you understand why the basket is shaped that way. It is to allow the rice to roll around while you free the rice from the sides of the basket. You will know when the rice is ready. The ball stays steady, rice sticks together and the ball doesn't show a crack.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be extra careful
  • Hold the basket firmly and steadily
  • go asian markets or stores to find your bamboo basket steamer
  • Keep kitchen clear of small children during the process
  • Scalding can result in carelessness.
  • You really have to use your hands to eat this
