Things You'll Need:
- Box
- Utility Knife
- Shipping tape
- Wood glue
- Duct tape
-
Step 1
The Perfect BoxGet your perfect box ready by making sure it is corrugated cardboard so it can stand up to shipping stresses and the inside outing process.
-
Step 2
Cut the tapeLay it on its side and cut open the tape on the bottom. Do not rip the tape off or you will disrupt the integrity of the box.
-
Step 3
The glue flapFind the glue flap of the existing box.
-
Step 4
The seperate glue flapCarefully rip open the glue flap. Use either your finger or the utility knife to open it up. Be sure to not damage the flap or the box too much.
-
Step 5
The flipped, taped, and glued glue flapFlip the box so that the outside is now the inside. Put wood glue on the glue flap and a piece of packing tape or duct tape to seal the inside of the box. Note that this tape will be on the inside of the box and that the glue is on the opposite side of the glue flap that already has glue.
-
Step 6
The new glue flap sealed on the outsideAlign the glue flap on the inside of the box and press the tape on the inside of the box to hold it in place. Put a strip of tape on the outside of the box as well to hold the glue flap closed. The box should be perfectly square at this point.
The tape is there is just to hold the box closed until the glue dries. The glue will be the real source of strength. The box may fall apart if you just rely on the tape, so make sure you use glue. -
Step 7
The bottom of the boxSeal one end of the box with packing tape. Sometimes I put an extra strip or two of tape perpendicular to the closed flap for extra strength.
-
Step 8
The Perfect Box Inside OutedFlip the box over, load it up, tape it closed, and it’s ready to ship.

on 6/8/2009 I've done this in a pinch, reusing or resizing boxes. Becareful, the USPS does have rules about this. 5*s
