Things You'll Need:
- Fishing pole
- Bait
- Bucket for fish
- Camera
-
Step 1
Purchase a fishing pole at the local sporting goods or discount department store. Look for the fishing poles that come with a tackle box and bait. These type of fishing pole kits are usually inexpensive and designed for children. Purchase some live bait as well. Talk to the sales person on how to properly use the fishing pole.
-
Step 2
Purchase a fishing license. Check with your local fish and game commission for age requirements and license fees. Obtain a map of fishing ponds, lakes and streams in your area.
-
Step 3
Locate a local pond for your first fishing trip. Talk to the sales person at the local sporting goods store for the best place to take a child fishing. Go to a pond or small lake that is safe along the shoreline.
-
Step 4
Have the child put live bait or a rubber worm on the hook. Step back and let the child cast the fishing line into the water. A few attempts may be necessary. Be patient and enjoy the experience.
