How to Choose Slenderizing Ladies' Clothes

How to Choose Slenderizing Ladies' Clothes thumbnail
Choose figure-flattering clothing.

Many women have a little part of their body that needs toning down or softening. Figures can be helped greatly by the clothes we wear, so make wise choices in your clothing, and it will seem as if the pounds have disappeared.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose longer skirts and dresses for a slimming look. The full length look is most slimming, but that effect decreases the shorter the length. Gored and A-line skirts are styles that yield a more slender appearance. Gored skirts generally have six panels that flair slightly at the hip area and are fitted at the waist. A-line skirt often contain three to six panels with the flair of the gored style.

Go with a monochorome outfit. Accessorize with other colors, but the single-color look gives your figure a clean line that slims you.

    • 3

If your waist isn't your best feature, choose a dress with an undefined waist or empire waist. Dark colors also enhance the slimming effect.

    • 4

Look for clothes that are not form-fitting but that drape loosely on your body. They should show off your curves but not cling to every bulge.

    • 5

Choose slacks that are not form fitting, but that don't balloon away from your body, to make your lower body appear thinner. Avoid pleats, which just draw attention to your stomach and make you look bigger. Wear slacks that have hems that almost touch the floor. This gives you a taller silhouette. Choose solids or a small pattern to achieve the most slimming effect.

    • 6

Choose a blouse that highlights your best features and covers your flaws. Long sleeves and 3/4-length sleeves are slimming on most body types. Choose blouses with princess seams for a slimming, fitted look. To cover bulging trouble spots, try a baby doll style blouse where the fabric flows away from the body, but be careful not to have too much fabric billowing around that will just make you look larger.

    • 7

Choose blouses or tops with a V-neck, turtleneck or a peter pan collar because they make the upper body appear longer. which creates a thinning effect.

    • 8

Consider tops with small, vertical patterns. Thin vertical lines are the real winners for an appearance of a slimmer look in a blouse or top.

    • 9

Wear a vest or light, flowing sweater to create a slenderizing profile. This accessory is also a real fashion statement, pulling the top and bottom together like designers do.
