How to Sign Up for Job Corps

Job Corps is a free program provided by the U.S. Department of Labor. The program allows youth ages 16 to 24 to live on the Corps' campus to earn a high-school diploma and get vocational training. The goal of Job Corps is to help at-risk youth become valuable contributing members of society. It's simple to sign up for Job Corps.

Instructions

    • 1

Call Job Corps' toll-free number: (800) 733-JOBS, or (800) 733-5627. Be prepared with a pen and paper. The operator will provide you with information about the nearest Job Corps facility to your home. Write down the address and phone number that the operator gives you, and repeat it back to make sure you heard and wrote it down correctly.

    • 2

Give the Job Corps operator your mailing information. Job Corps will send you an informational packet soon after.

    • 3

Call the local Job Corps using the information the Job Corps operator gave you. Make an appointment to see a counselor on the Job Corps campus.

    • 4

Arrive early for your appointment with the counselor. Express your desire to sign up with Job Corps.

    • 5

Tour the facility with the counselor, and ask any questions or express any concerns that you might have. Ask the Job Corps counselor for any and all necessary paperwork that must be filled out before you can become a Job Corps student and resident.

    • 6

Fill out all of the paperwork that you were given during your appointment at Job Corps. Have the paperwork signed by your parents, and high-school principal. Visit your doctor and get a physical examination so that Job Corps officials will have any health problems on file.

    • 7

Take all of the necessary paperwork, medical forms and forms of identification, such as your birth certificate, Social Security card and picture ID, back to the Job Corps office.

    • 8

Wait until you are called by Job Corps. Job Corps will process your paperwork and determine whether you will be accepted into the Job Corps program.
