Looking to save money on printer ink? The ink itself is actually very cheap and not worth spending $20 on a whole new cartridge. Try this instead.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ink filling Kit - OR
  • Syringe
  • Ink
  • Empty Cartridge
  • Sealer
  • Rubber Gloves
  1. Step 1

Collect your materials. The easiest way to do this may be to go to your local store and buy a small kit.

You can also go online and buy one even cheaper. A gallon of Black ink will cost you about $100, an average cartridge holds 15ml. 1 gallon will probably last you a lifetime.

  2. Step 2

Peel back the label on the top of the cartridge. Under the label you should see 1 hole is it is a black cartridge or 3 holes if it is color.

  3. Step 3

Be sure you have your rubber gloves on as this part can get messy. Use newspaper as a spill guard. Ink STAINS!

  4. Step 4

Use a toothpick and poke in each hole to see what color goes in what hole.

  5. Step 5

Use the syringe and draw about 15-20 mL or ink. Locate the proper hole as determined earlier and very SLOWLY put the ink into the hole. ***Watch carefully not to overfill***

  6. Step 6

After it is filled, use the sealer to close up the hole. Sometimes a heavy duty thin piece of tape will do, but be careful if you choose that method.

  7. Step 7

Carefully clean the jet (where the ink comes out on the bottom). Use a tissue to wipe clean.

  8. Step 8

Wait a few minutes to watch for leaks or excess ink.

  9. Step 9

If it all looks good, insert the cartridge and begin printing for a fraction of the cost!

Tips & Warnings
  • This can be very messy, be sure to take precautions by wearing bad clothes, using newspaper, and using rubber gloves
  • Do not poke too hard into the cartridge with the syringe or tookpick
