Adding RAM to your desktop computer can speed up your internet browsing, and allow you use multiple programs at once without slowing you down. Once you realize how easy it is to add RAM to a desktop computer you will wonder why you waited so long to do it. How do you add RAM (Random Access Memory) to a desktop Computer?

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1
    Unplug your PC
    Unplug your PC

    Unplug your desktop computer before adding any hardware.

  2. Step 2
    Open the cabinet
    Open the cabinet

    Open the cabinet, case, or shell of your desktop computer, this may require a screwdriver to open.

  3. Step 3

    Open the package with your new RAM carefully, so that you do not damage it.

  4. Step 4
    Pull the tabs apart
    Pull the tabs apart

    Pull the tabs slightly apart to expose the slot where you insert the RAM. Push the new RAM down into the slot.

  5. Step 5
    Push tabs into place
    Push tabs into place

    Push the tabs back into place secureing the new RAM.

  6. Step 6
    Close and reboot
    Close and reboot

    Close your computer case, plug in your PC, and restart it. Your PC should automatically recognize the new RAM if installed correctly.

Tips & Warnings
  • Open your computer to verify the type and model numbers from your RAM before ordering to ensure you purchase the correct ones.
  • Check the available slots in your computer for RAM so that you know how many you can add.
  • Never work on a PC while it is conntected to an electrical outlet.
