Things You'll Need:
- someone to assess the need
- a "rotator" to flatten the dirt
- eventually some dirt to fill in
- fertilizer - the kind for early spring
-
Step 1
Find a good landscape company; in order to achieve the best results you do have to hire an educated person that knows what they are doing and do it right for you.
-
Step 2
Make an appointment and have them evaluate the needs for your yard. You probably know already what you want to have your yard look like.
-
Step 3
Make a list and make sure you cover all your concerns about all items on your books - when you meet.
Order dirt to even certain areas; that area should be seeded and covered by hay. -
Step 4
Make sure you keep the freshly worked area wet or, if it's very windy you might want to cover it temporarily. Eventually the landscaper should have a light mesh to cover.
-
Step 5
Get a proposal in writing. Expect to have all jobs done in one appointment. The best use of fertilizer is to distribute it early spring, and/or at least twice a year - spring and fall; that will help your grass develop strength and will grow beautiful and healthy during the summer
-
Step 6
Cover all terms and look for the completion of work to be done same day or as the time permits for the area you need work on.
-
Step 7
Address the issue of having moles, if that's the case; a professional landscaper will have the best solution for you; they can just advise you on what to do or they will cover that in their proposal.
-
Step 8
Look for signs of dieing trees; have the landscaper do some pruning as necessary, because the sooner that is done the better; you give the tree a chance the recovering process soon.

on 6/11/2009 Good article. You may also want to call your local agricultural extension service and send them a sample of your soil. For a small fee, they will tell you the right amounts of fertilizer to add so the landscaper doesn't over/under do it.
