Step 1
You should start by making a list or mental note, of the things you would like to change. You usually want to start with the things you use the most. For example my list includes:
changing light bulbs, buying reusable bags, start recycling, stop using paper towels, buy energy star appliances, look at solar panels, get smaller more fuel efficient vehicle, etc. -
Step 2
Once you have accomplished your list, GO SHOPPING! You might be surprised to find a lot of green products at your local dollar store. This is a great place to start. I have purchased energy saving light bulbs, reusable bags, terry clothes (to replace paper towels), solar powered garden lights, as well as a timer for lights and sprinkler systems. When the dollar store fails, try your local discount stores.

Step 3
Going green does not have to be expensive. You can start with the small things and later focus on the more costly things, like solar panels. You may also find that giving up your SUV/Truck/Van for a more fuel efficient vehicle, can not just help the environment, but save you money. You don't have to give up class, usually you can by a nicer car for the price of an SUV. Look into your waste service for recycling service as well. Then you can put out your recycling along with your trash and it will become habit. Put $20 dollars aside and buy 20 reusable bags at the local dollar store. Leave the bags in your car and use them for grocery' s which is where you tend to waste a lot of plastic bags. Some free green ideas, are to run your appliances at night. Like your dishwasher, washer, dryer. Unplug appliances when not in use. Do not run water excessively. Run all your errands on one set day, so that your not wasting time and gas. Once you get a hang of going green it will become like second nature!
