How to Use Home Remedies to Treat Bad Breath

Bad breath is a common problem for people. Some just have bad morning breath but others suffer from chronic bad breath. Some of us don’t realize our breath smells bad unless someone tells us so. If you want to know if you have bad breath, try breathing into a handkerchief and smell it or run floss between your teeth and take a whiff. If it smells bad, try some home remedies to get rid of the nasty bad breath odor.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Make a tea with fenugreek seeds by adding one teaspoon of the seeds to a cup of water and letting it simmer for at least 15 minutes on low heat. Strain the tea and drink it warm. The use of fenugreek seeds has been successful for lots of people in getting rid of bad breath.

  2. Step 2

    Add several sprigs of chopped parsley to some water along with either two or three whole cloves or a quarter of a teaspoon of ground cloves. Steep the sprigs of parsley and cloves in boiling water for a few minutes and strain before drinking. Use this home remedy as a tea or a mouth wash.

  3. Step 3

    Sprinkle some baking soda into your palm, dip your toothbrush in it and brush your teeth and tongue. Not only does baking soda freshen your breath but it will clean your teeth too.

  4. Step 4

    Chew on different kinds of spices to help get rid of bad breath. Different kind of spices to help freshen your breath are cloves, cardamom, and fennel. Chew on any one of these kind of spices after every meal to help freshen your breath. This is a common practice in South Asia and the Middle East. These spices have antimicrobial properties in them.

  5. Step 5

    Swish some water around your mouth for at least 20 seconds to help loosen food particles from your mouth. Water can be as good as a mouth wash since it loosens the food particles and helps keep your breath fresh.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to scrape your tongue for 90 seconds with a toothbrush and toothpaste to help get rid of bad breath.
  • Gargle with a mouth wash or hydrogen peroxide to help get rid of bad breath.
  • Chewing on mint leaves can also help get rid of bad breath. Chew on them in the morning and throughout the day if you need to get rid of bad breath.
