Doing ribbing on double pointed needles is not difficult. I will show you how. I am assuming you know how to knit, and also how to knit on double-pointed needles. I will include links to instructions for both at the end of the article.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Double-pointed needles
  • yarn
  1. Step 1
    working in a tube

You will do ribbing in basically the same way you do it in flat knitting. You are knitting the knits and purling the purls. Remember on double pointed needles you are working on a seamless tube. In the round is how knitters say it.

  2. Step 2
You are working on the outside.

You are working on the outside.

As you go around, knitting the knits and purling the purls, you will do the ribbing. In flat knitting, you would be working on the back of the stitch, after you turned the work. In the round, doing a ribbing you are going around and around on the outside of the stitch, and you knit the knit and purl the purl and you are in business!

  3. Step 3

When you bind off ribbing, be sure you bind off "in ribbing" so that it will be the correct tension.
