Instructions

    • 1

Apply 2,4-D herbicide to problem areas in your lawn in the spring when the temperatures reach about 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit, probably in May. This is a broad-leaved herbicide and should not harm your lawn, but read label directions and follow them carefully. Spray on a calm day when rain is not expected for at least 48 hours.

    • 2

Water the lawn to control dandelions that appear later in the season. Do this when they have bloomed, which is when they are at their weakest. The water softens up the ground around the dandelion roots.

    • 3

Insert the weed popper tool at the base of the dandelion while the ground is still wet from the watering. Push it down 4 to 6 inches and pry the plant up by the roots.

    • 4

Collect all the pulled dandelions and throw them out in the trash.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also apply the 2,4-D in the fall if you weren't able to do so in the spring.
