When the time comes to transfer files from one computer to another this article will come in handy. There are many different ways to transfer files or data. Using CDs as described below is one way to do so.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • CD Rewritable Drive
  1. Step 1
    Open CD RW Window
    Open CD RW Window

To begin transferring files insert a blank CD into the CD RW drive and close any windows that open. Go to My Computer and double left click on the drive with your blank CD. A blank window will open up.

  2. Step 2

Minimize that window to the taskbar. Left click on the files you want to add to the CD and drag them to the CD Drive window in the taskbar. When you have selected all of the files wanted, click Write these files to CD at the left.

  3. Step 3

Take your CD and put it in to the new computer. A window will open and ask you what you want to do with the CD. Answer copy files to a folder on your computer, this will begin to transfer files. The system will ask to name a new folder or pick one already on the system. That is all there is to it. Easy enough but if you have a lot of files to transfer you may want to try another method. Other methods include USB file transfer cables, transfer files to an external hard drive and copying files to a USB Memory Stick.

Tips & Warnings
  • With this method of file transfer a there will always be a backup of all files. Transferring them to another hard drive is not really safe keeping.
  • Be aware that some music files and other media may not play in another computer if it is copy protected.
