Things You'll Need:
- The dress code
-
Step 1
Ask Human Resources. If you're starting a new job or got a promotion that requires a new dress code, the best way to be sure you're wearing the right digs, is to ask for a dress code guideline from H.R.
-
Step 2
Think conservative. If you can't get the H.R. guidelines before you start working, go with a conservative approach. This can be thought of as not standing out. Don't try to impress your boss with a wacky tie or purple six inch heels. Stick to the basics: 1.Make sure it fits well, 2.is not wrinkled discolored or damaged, 3. has no fancy patterns, or designs. 4. Skirts should cover the knee when standing, and pants should hit the tops of your shoes for both men and women. 5. Make up and hairstyles should be conservative- not too wild or over the top. (The photo on this step is an example of what NOT to wear.)
-
Step 3
In business, you want to sell your ideas, products, and services with your practices and ethics. Customers and business partners could be distracted by your clothes if they draw too much attention. You don't want someone day-dreaming over a new tie during your important presentation. Conservative is best as you get to know the trends and accepted policies of your business.
-
Step 4
fotolio.comFor men- find a well fitted or tailored suit in a dark color. This includes a jacket, pants, button down shirt, tie, and shoes. Ties should match and be low profile. Shoes should be clean and polished. Remember brown or black dress socks only. No white socks with suits!
-
Step 5
For women- find a well fitted suit that includes a jacket, pants or skirt, and shoes. You may wear a button down shirt or chemise under your jacket. Do not show cleavage. With skirts, wear pantyhose and appropriate shoes. Heels or flats are okay, just remember that your shoes should be conservative and not too flashy.
