Half Windsor
Half Windsor

There are four standard ways to tie a tie. The second most common one most people use is the half Windsor knot. A slightly more modest version of the full Windsor. If you follow the steps below you will be on your way to the occasion.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Select a neck tie, please don't pick anything rediculase. If you cant pick a decent tie you must immediately put on a clip on tie; go directly to jail and do not collect 200 dollars when you pass go.

  2. Step 2

    1

Begin with the wide end(W) of your tie on the right. This should extend just about a foot below the narrow end(N) on the left. Please note the pictures are you looking in the mirror.

  3. Step 3

Now cross the wide end of the tie over the narrow end.

Next bring the wide end around and behind the narrow end.

Now bring the wide end straight up.

  6. Step 6

This part is the tricky area. Pull the wide part through the loop and to the right.

  7. Step 7

Now bring the wide end around the front, over the narrow end from the right to the left.

  8. Step 8

once again bring the wide end up and through the loop.

  9. Step 9

And now you need to bring the wide end down through the knot in the front.

  10. Step 10

Now using both of your hands you need to tighten your knot very carefully as you bring it up to your collar.

  11. Step 11

Phew Congratulations you just tied a Half Windsor. You just went from a clip on imbecile to giving 007 a run for his money. For that sir you have my respect and have fun at the special occasion!

Tips & Warnings
  • Half Windsor works best with wider neck ties made from light to medium fabric
  • Works well with most dress shirts
  • If you really want to impress try making a perfect tie via the dimple method. The link below elaborates on this
  • Make sure you untie the opposite way you tied it. Don't just yank it off it could damage or stretch the material. If the ends come out wrong make the appropriate adjustment next time you tie by giving more slack to the other side.
