Ginger has strong anti-inflammatory properties and can be used to treat a number of inflammatory ailments including a sore throat. This is a delicious and soothing cold remedy that helps with a sore throat.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A large piece of fresh ginger
  • A small sauce pan
  • Cane sugar (optional)
  1. Step 1

Pick the freshest piece of ginger root you can find. The bark should be smooth and glossy. The ginger root should be plump and round. Avoid anything that looks shriveled or dried. Choose a large piece (or several large pieces).

  2. Step 2

If you don't plan to make this remedy right away, keep the ginger wrapped in foil or plastic wrap in the refrigerator. This will keep it from drying out too quickly.

  3. Step 3

To prepare this remedy, slice the ginger (you don't need to peel it) into 1/8" discs.

  4. Step 4

Add the sliced ginger root and fresh water to a saucepan. You'll need one big root (about 3-4") for every two cups of water. Bring to a boil.

  5. Step 5

As soon as the water comes to a boil, reduce the flame and cook for 15-20 minutes. The water will become a deep ginger color.

  6. Step 6

Drink a full cup of this mixture while it is still warm. You can sweeten with sugar if you like. Drink this mixture as needed until pain and swelling subsides.

  7. Step 7

Usually, you can add water to the cooked ginger root a second time to make a second batch. Eating the cooked ginger is also beneficial and is good for stomach ailments.
