Prevent necessary dental expense as well as your child's embarrassment and put an end to finger sucking once and for all!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • sock
  • patients
  • encouragement
  1. Step 1

There are a good bit of children who suck on their fingers or thumbs and end up costing their parents a fortune in dental care, whether it be dental advise and equipment to prevent them sucking on their fingers or the dental expense of correcting the teeth after years of sucking on their fingers and thumbs. You can stop this yourself and without expensive dental equipment and before you end up paying for necessary dental care. Usually the child is sucking their fingers when they are tired, during nap time, or when they go to bed. This is a habit that if formed and most of the time the child is doing this without realizing what he or she is doing.

  2. Step 2

With the use of a sock you can break this habit and save your child's teeth as well as prevent embarrassment that will come when they spend the night with friends and suck on their fingers. All you have to do is offer a little encouragement, have patients for the habit to be broken, and make sure you place the sock over your child's hand or hands each night before bed or before nap time. After a period of wearing the sock you will find that you have broken the finger sucking problem and saved yourself what could be thousands of dollars on dental care.

  3. Step 3

Remember, this is a habit not something your child is doing knowingly and it takes time to break habits but keep in mind the amount of money and your child's pride you will save when you break the finger sucking habit with a household sock. You can offer prizes for extra encouragement once you stop using the sock just to make sure they are aware of what they are putting an end to. After about a month start experimenting with allowing your child to sleep a few nights without the sock. Remember if the habits comes back you just place the sock on their hand again & continue working through it. You will eventually break the habit once and for all.
