Properly caring for your tile floor will prevent damage and extend the life of the tile.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

First start by sweeping the floor very good. This should be done daily to prevent grime and dirt from settling in the grout.

  2. Step 2

Next you can use just warm water to clean the tile. Do not saturate the floor, but use a mop that has been rung out really well.

  3. Step 3

If the floor is ceramic, you may use a mixture of warm water and vinegar. This should not be used if you have marble flooring since the acid in the vinegar may damage marble.

  4. Step 4

To clean non-colored grout, use a mixture of half water and half hydrogen peroxide. Spray it and allow the mixture to set for about 15 minutes, then wipe clean with a cloth or damp mop. If that does not work, add a little baking soda to the mixture and repeat the steps. Shaving cream may also be used to clean grout.

  5. Step 5

Do not use this mixture on a colored grout. If the grout is colored, check with your local supply store and see if they have a color safe product.

  6. Step 6

After each cleaning, you should apply sealant after the grout has completely dried. This helps keep the grout looking new!

Tips & Warnings
  • Test in a hidden area before cleaning.
  • Use products approved for colored grout.
