Clean silver and create a lesson for children all at the same time. The reason that this process works is due to an ion exchange. These is a very simple, easy and effective method from very common items most people keep in their kitchen.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Silver Plate
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Container
  • Cold Water
  • Salt
  1. Step 1

    Find a pan or baking dish that is larger and deeper than the silver plate you are going to clean. Now take a sheet of aluminum foil and line the pan.

  2. Step 2

    Fill the aluminum lined container with cold water. Add two teaspoons of salt. If you had to use a container much larger than a large baking dish you may need to add another a bit more salt.

  3. Step 3

    Now that they magic solution is ready place your silver plate in the pan. Let it soak in the solution for two or three minutes.

  4. Step 4

    After two or three minutes of soaking in the solution remove the silver plate. Then rinse and dry it off.

  5. Step 5

    To keep the silverware from tarnishing in storage line the surface with aluminum foil and place the silver item on top. Do not use this method if it is long term storage.

Tips & Warnings
  • If storing silver for a very long time it is best to leave it tarnish. It can be silvers way of preserving itself.
  • Do not use to much salt.
  • Do not leave soaking for longer than recommended time.
