Lay out your paper grocery bag

How to Make a Bag Pattern from a Shopping Bag.

Things You'll Need

• Brown Shopping Bag
• Scissors
• Material
• Thread
• Sewing Machine or Needle
• or glue together

Instructions

1. 1. Get a paper shopping bag from any grocery store and cut it open (see main picture). Lay out flat.

2. Get material that you want to use to make a bag. Polyester or 50/50 Half Cotton Half polyester for strength. Lay out material with right sides together. Cut and leave about an inch around everything you cut for seams.

3. When you have your pieces laid out - flat bag and handles, pin to material.
   Cut a pattern using the bag.

4. Sew up one long seam, same as where you cut the bag. Turn seam in when sewing so there are not any loose ends. Turn topsides down and sew the hem piece around. Sew up handles folding over so there are triple. Sew them to inside of bag, two seams. Now you have a material shopping bag. Might want to line the bottom with cardboard.
