Step 1
Gathering Keyword suggestions. A good place to start is Google Insights for Search (see the link under resources). This tool will provide you with the top ten most popular searches related to your keyword for a specified time frame, geographic location and category. Once you sort through those results, and choose a few keywords relating to your content, plug those into the Google Adwords Keyword Tool (link below). This tool will give you an exhaustive list of suggested keywords. Select the ones that you intend to use, and download them into your notepad.
-
Step 2
Keyword Density. Using the Linktator2 Competition Checker. Copy and paste your keyword list into the form. This little tool is the fastest, easiest, free way to get an idea of keyword competition. Keywords with a low ratio have less competition than those with a higher ratio. Obviously, you'll be using the ones with a lower ratio. Make your master keyword list in a file. You will be using them more than once.
-
Step 3
Now that you have your master list, start writing your content. Your title and the first 250 characters of content should include your top keywords, as well as 3% of the total content. You will also enter the keywords as tags on your article. Once you have published, it is time to promote, and produce anchored backlinks. Stumble Upon and Delicious both give you the opportunity to enter tags. Enter in those keywords one more time. For more information on anchored backlinks read "Best Ways To Create Anchored Backlinks...Without Social Bookmarking". This article also explains how to use Insights for Search and the Google Adwords Keyword Tool. Click on the article title under Resources, at the bottom of this page.
