Things You'll Need:
- Basketball goal
- Basketball

Step 1
The key to shooting free throws is to make one shot and then replicate that over and over. The term free throw is an oxymoron because there is nothing free about it. When you are in front of hundreds of people or just a couple of friends it can become a mental challenge. What we want to do is take the mental out of it.

Step 2
Free throws are about mechanics. You don't have to be the most agile, the most balanced or the highest jumper to make free throws. What you do have to have shooting free throws are good repetitive mechanics. What that means is find what works and do it again.

Step 3
Go get your basketball and take it to your goal, along with a video camera. Set the video camera up on you while shooting and take 10 shots. You will probably make a couple shots doing this, if not, keep shooting until you do. Take the video camera and watch it, watch the ones that you made and watch the ones you missed. Got it? Now repeat what you did to make the shots. Did you put a little more arc on the ball? Did you shoot softer? Find what works.

Step 4
Not everyone will shoot the same. There are many good basketball players who have very different shots. What they do know is how to repeat what gets the ball in the basket. Once you find out what works for you, try and repeat that repetition of mechanics every time you step on the line. Shoot over and over with the same mechanics and you'll see your average go through the roof. This takes the mental stress out of shooting. If you are concentrating on your shot, you will not be concentrating on your buddies, or those hundreds of people in the stands. Enjoy!
